Canteen

Mike Mastros ... February 2007

My theory is that the "upside down" variety was the first manufactured. If you hold it with the canteen cap/keyway facing upwards with your thumb hiding the shackle it appears as a canteen with the lettering right side up. As people looked at the canteen as you would a padlock, with the shackle facing upwards, they called the lettering "upside down". Because of this Slaymaker changed the design to the "right side up" variety even though, as a canteen it is upside down.
