The patent was applied for on April 28, 1910 and issued on January 17, 1911. This padlock was offered in the Simmons Hardware Co. catalogs of 1910 thru 1917. The Titanic sank on April 15, 1912 which leads me believe that this padlock was adopted as the commemorative for the Titanic instead of being made to commemorate the Titanic. There is a second assist spring made of steel on the lever that holds the shackle when the lock is open. The width of the fence face is .090". On the #2 lever the opening of the first gate is .120" and the opening on the second gate is .090". The fence will not go into the gate opening. On the #3 lever the opening of the first gate is .110" and the opening on the second gate is only .045".
We do not know what Miller was thinking about when making this lock.

Brass case. Steel shackle. 6 levers including guard lever. 1 ward.  There is a hole going through the dust guard and the case to accept a wire seal. This lock requires a service key to remove the face plate. The lock must be in the opened position in order for the service key to function.
