John Stary
Concept, Design, and Manufacture

It was in 1984 that John first decided to design a lock. John made the Janus in 1988 and the Medusa in 1989. John planned to produce a third lock however an illness in the family precluded him from doing so.

Story Locks: What is a story lock.
Janus & Medusa: Each lock is stamped with a serial number on the inside of the case near the shackle opening.
Janus: This is the original document for the Janus. It was the 1st padlock design.
Only 19 locks were produced of this variety numbered 001 thru 019.
There was 1 un-numbered prototype produced.
There were 2 finishes applied to this lock "Antique Bronze" and "Duranodic Bronze". Most of the locks were finished in "Duranodic Bronze".
Janus: This is a pencil drawing of the Janus. It shows the general components and their approximate placement. A pin was used for the shackle instead of the rivet noted in the drawing.
