 The company was in existence at least by 1898 as I found a reference to it in a Grain Dealers Journal of that year, and there is a brief write up on how the company was involved in the grain trade.   There is a second lock of the same dimensions and patent date on the bottom except it has a plate soldered across the body with a differently named business for which I could not find a suitable reference. Perhaps American Warehouse Storage Guarantee Company, Baltimore or Balto City. Interestingly enough, I have found a reference in a 1908 bankruptcy journal describing a locker that had a bronze padlock like this one including a description of the added plate although a different name. But describes it as Premises of [Security W H S G Co of NY] Chicago Ill. Referring to the plate covering part of the words but leaving exposed the first two words of ‘Premises of’ and the last two words of ‘Chicago, Ill.’   So, give that this plate on this lock could be dated at over 100 years old, perhaps it could be classified as a separate and distinct lock.
