John Stary
The re-birth of the Story Lock
The Company: "John Stary" proprietor | "John Locke" The 17th century English Philosopher and Physician |
John Stary, CML (Certified Master Locksmith)
In 1966 at the age of 20 John Stary took a correspondence
course in Locksmithing and what began as a whim, turned into a lifelong
career of working with locks.
John worked part time as a locksmith, mostly by word of mouth, until 1972,
when he started his own locksmith business.
In 1975 John went to work for the University of Wisconsin-Stout in
Menomonie, as their locksmith, replacing his mentor and friend who was
retiring but John still kept his own business as a sideline.
Then in 1981, a friend talked John into taking a position with a hollow
metal door company that was in need of a locksmith in the Minneapolis/St.
Paul area of Minnesota. From then until his retirement in September of 2010,
John had been the locksmith at three hollow metal door companies, covering
the entire state of Minnesota and west central Wisconsin.
John is currently a resident of Hudson Wisconsin where he is still active as
a locksmith, on a limited basis, and continues to pursue the restoration of
his antique locks while enjoying his retirement.
